Thirty players have been named in the Azzurri side to prepare for the tournament and take on Scotland and Finland in friendlies, before being whittled down to 23 next week

Italy forward Lorenzo Insigne has been named in Antonio Conte’s provisional 30-man squad for Euro 2016 preparations, despite initial fears that he would be cut.

One of the surprises comes in the form of Genoa striker Leonardo Pavoletti not making the 30, despite impressing at Coverciano last week and ending the season as Serie A’s top scoring Italian.

Despite a great deal of speculation surrounding which goalkeeper would claim the third spot in the absence of the injured Mattia Perin, it has gone to Lazio’s Federico Marchetti, who was part of the side which crashed out of the 2010 World Cup in the group phase.

Although they have been called up, the fitness of midfielders Thiago Motta and Riccardo Montolivo will be assessed over the next seven days or so.
