Louis van Gaal and coaching staff ‘furious’ after Manchester United sacking
One suspects that Ed Woodward felt significantly more apprehensive before sacking the volatile Louis van Gaal this morning than he did David Moyes two years ago.
However, Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman plucked up the courage to tell the veteran Dutch coach that retirement was coming a year earlier than planned.
Van Gaal’s Dutch coaching staff - assistant Albert Stuivenberg, goalkeeper coach Frans Hoek and performance analyst Max Reckers - have also been dismissed while Ryan Giggs’ position remains uncertain for the time being.
According to The Sun’s Neil Custis - the journalist famously labelled a ‘fat man’ by Van Gaal back in January, in one of the season’s more bizarre moments - Van Gaal and his staff have been left “furious” following their dismissal. They reportedly felt they would still be in charge of the Red Devils next season and were subsequently planning for it, only to be told they wouldn’t be allowed to see out the final year of their three-year contracts.
Van Gaal and his staff reportedly feel "betrayed" and want answers from both Woodward and the Glazer family.
MOURINHO WILL BRING IN HIS OWN COACHING STAFF
Van Gaal will be replaced by Jose Mourinho who, according to the Daily Mail, is expected to bring in Rui Faria as his assistant and Silvino Louro as his goalkeeper coach.
For being dismissed 12 months before his contract expires, Van Gaal is set to receive a huge £5 million pay off. This is according to the Telegraph’s James Ducker who understands the 64-year-old received £400,000 for winning the FA Cup.
VAN GAAL LEARNED HIS FATE EARLY THIS MORNING
Van Gaal bowed out on a high with that 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Wembley and expected to still be in charge of the Premier League giants next season.
But shortly after arriving at Carrington around 8:45am this morning, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach learned his fate following a meeting with Woodward.
Few United fans will be sad to see Van Gaal leave due to the club’s lack of success and uninspiring style of football over the past two seasons.
